Dear Friends and Mmembers of Resurrection,
Have you noticed how our garden is growing this year? The harvest is abundant, the result of lots of sunshine and rain and love being poured down upon it. Walk out there and see the variety of vegetables and flowers and give thanks for another season of growth. You can also feel free to pick a few things and take them home with you: the vegetables are there to be eaten and enjoyed!
Jan Larsen is once more the brains and heart behind our garden. She knows her plants and she knows how to share her knowledge in a gentle way with those of us who don’t! Every Wednesday night members of Resurrection and our partners from Reformation join together to work in the garden, share a meal and worship together. Relationships grow. People grow. Faith grows.
You are all welcome to come out on any Wednesday in August for garden work, beginning around 5:00 p.m., dinner at 6:15 p.m. and worship at 7:00 .m. And please mark your calendars for our last evening of Digging and Dining on August 25th: it will be the last night of our gardening program and the first night of our all-ages “mini” Vacation Bible School.
On Wednesday, our usual Digging and Dining program will be held. On Thursday, we will begin with dinner at 6 p.m., followed by interactive learning and a campfire sing-a-long. On Friday night, we will begin with dinner at 6 p.m., followed by watching and discussing the movie, “The Blind Side.” The movie was chosen by our Movie Night Coordinator, Michael Kozlowski.
I hope all of you will be able to attend some or all of our all-ages VBS evening program. Please sign up on the kiosk so that we know the amount of food and craft items to have available. Anyone who wants to bring a guitar to play during the sing-a-long on Thursday night is invited to do so! Friends, as always, are welcome.
Speaking about growing things, please remember that we are in the midst of our “Seeds of Love” outreach emphasis. I ask each person or family to place a flower pot on your kitchen table and prayerfully put money in it during the next several months and be ready to offer it for outreach to those in need. Harvest Sunday, when this offering will take place, is October 24th. Please mark this very important day on your calendars; worship will be followed by HarvestFaire when we celebrate together the many ways in which the seeds of God’s love have grown in us and in our relationships with our partners in ministry.
Another date to mark on your calendars is Sunday, September 26th. That day is Blessing Sunday at Reformation when that congregation celebrates its partnerships and we gather together for worship, fellowship and refreshments. This year, Blessing Sunday will also be the occasion of the installation of Steve Wohlfeil as Pastor of Reformation. It is happening on this date intentionally so that it is clear that Steve is the pastor of a church whose identity is centered in its partnerships. As with past years, we will close our doors here and worship at Reformation at 10 a.m. that morning. Reformation is located on the corner of 35th and Garfield in Milwaukee. Parking is available; if any want to carpool, please talk to me.
Enjoy August and look for ways to grow in faith toward God and in compassion toward others.
Peace and joy,
Pastor Mary
